Yapper: Exposed

A record of the chat app at yapper.website, which the operator renamed Yapin' on 22 October 2026. The pages below quote the app's own site, terms, and privacy policy, the launch videos, and what users posted in public.

On 11 October 2026 the YouTube channel Antic published "Discord sucks... So I made my own" and linked yapper.website. The domain was registered the same day. In the auto-generated transcript he says the name had to be "close enough to Discord, but not close enough to get me in a lawsuit." Eleven days later the app dropped the name because of a trademark problem. The company on the terms, Yapper Media LLC, did not take over from the founder personally until 20 October.

Fetched on 25 October 2026, the homepage still says the whole app is free, that there is no subscription, and that nothing is held back. The same website sells Yapin' Plus at $4.99 a month. The free account stops at 2,000-character messages, 10 MB uploads, and 720p 30 fps screen sharing. Plus raises those to 4,000 characters, 100 MB, and 1080p 60 fps.

The short version

What the pitch saysWhat the same project publishes
Homepage, 25 Oct 2026: "There is no subscription and nothing held back." Plus is a renewing subscription. Terms section 9 lists Plus, Server Plus, Supercharge, boosts, promoted placement, and paid bot hosting.
"All of it free, including the stuff other apps make you pay for." Free screen share is 720p 30 fps. Free uploads are 10 MB. Those are the usual free-tier cuts. Higher quality is on the $4.99 plan.
17 Oct video: customization on Yapper is "entirely free." 23 Oct announcement: "Banners, animated icons and custom invites are free again." They had been held back, then put back.
Homepage: messages are "encrypted in transit and at rest." Only the people in a DM can read it in the app. Terms section 5.4: messages are not end-to-end encrypted. The privacy policy says automated checks read messages, including DMs, and some images are sent to Anthropic.
Calls are described as end-to-end encrypted. Terms section 13: the app cannot yet show you the other person's key, "so this protection relies on our servers passing keys on honestly."
A new, independent chat app. The founder aimed it at Discord's look. The bot docs say link buttons use "Discord's shape," and the webhook editor loads JSON from Discohook.

What this record is

This is an independent write-up of public pages. It is not affiliated with Yapper Media LLC, Yapin', or the channel Antic. No account was created on the service for this write-up, so logged-in behavior was not tested. Nothing here documents a breach, a leaked database, or a criminal case. A search on 25 October 2026 did not turn up a legal name for the operator, and this site does not try to supply one.

Other products use the word Yapper, including an AI video studio at yapper.so and a self-hosted voice app at yapper.gg. Those are different projects, with different people. Complaints about them are not complaints about this app.

Where a sentence is a user's allegation, it is labeled that way. Where a sentence is the operator's, it is quoted and linked.
